History
Seraphina hailed from the underwater settlement of Sui-no-Sato. Much like most of her kin she was very much supportive of their isolationist ways and the policy that was implemented by the Ruby Princess, having little to no interest in the world above. However, she had a profound curiosity that rivaled most of the scholars in the city. When she wasn't doing her familial duties or her studies for embroidery or music and dance she would seek out scrolls to read. Some Elders enjoyed her enthusiasm for learning, others not so much or indifferent. More or less, she was a attentive daughter and the only child to her parents. Her mother passed away while she was young, the only having her father, aunts, uncles, and cousins around. Even though she was surrounded by family, her childhood was a lonely one.
It wasn't long that she started doing small excursions outside of the dome. Eventually it led her to the Eastern shore of Othard where she met a Hyuran fisherman by the name of Koichi. At first, she was cold and jaded. Not trusting nor interested in the friendship that he had extended. It took moons of him seeking her out until one evening...she smiled at him. A friendship ensued! For many months she would sneak to the shores, sitting for hours and asking so many questions that she could able. The first thing that she saw on the surface was the Stars. Something that was impossible to see down in the depths. Koichi had taught her as much as he could...the constellations, how his village was ran...he even brought her flowers. Something that she had never seen and grew to love since. It wasn't the only thing she grew to love. The friendship between the Raen and the Hyur sparked into romance of tender courtship. Strolls along the shore, swimming, picnics when they were able...the Auri grew enamored with the surface. Perhaps it wasn't as all bad as it seemed.
Seraphina's newfound adoration for the surface did not go unnoticed by her father and family. When she once agreed that it was best to stay away and not take part of the outside world, she spoke differently. Advocating for trade and bringing an end to the isolationism. This caused her kin to look upon her unfavorably and then one day she overheard a conversation that involved a Kojin. The rumors of rebellion in Doma. Seraphina knew little of the Garlean Empire, only having learned about them from Koichi who despised them for reasons she couldn't fathom. Concerned, she went to the shores of Isari in search of Koichi. Only to be dismayed when he informed her that he would be joining the Doman Liberation Front. Out of fear she pleaded for him to stay, her words falling on deaf ears. Although he had promised her he'd come back, he never returned. It was only by Kojin words did she receive the news that the Domans were crushed mercilessly by Imperial forces, only so much of the rebels had managed to make it out alive.
Horrified, she packed her things, ready to go in search of Koichi. This led to the inevitable confrontation with her father and she was given an ultimatum. Her home or exile. She had already become ostracized by those who were once her friends, her family, her people...it wasn't a hard option. And although Seraphina feels the pangs of homesickness, she chose a world bigger than a domed city. It was difficult for her, but eventually she made it to Doma. The sights of bloodied battlefields covered in the corpses of the dead greeted her eyes, and for the first time, understood why her people hidden themselves away. The effects of War was a terrible thing. Day and night she searched...in the end she couldn't find her love. It wasn't until she made her way to the village of Nanami that she had found out his fate. A injured Doman rebel had served in the same platoon as Koichi, witnessing his death along with many others. She stayed for days, lost in grief until a kind woman provided her with an instrument after coaxing that the Raen liked music. Playing laments for her lost love, the villager requested that she keep it, moved by the melancholic melodies.
The small Auri did not stay in Nanami forever. She wandered aimlessly until she found her way across the Ruby Sea in Kugane. There she played music and earned money. While she lived humbly in sadness for her lost love, she never lost that curiosity, over time the pain dulled and she found herself more open to others. Books, plants, flowers, animals. Seraphina could see them all! Yet, she was greatly intrigued by the strangers in strange clothes who came off the ships. It was difficult to try and talk, often asking a patron to translate what people were saying, only to discover the realm of Eorzea! A place that was the opposite of the Far East. Lands of eternal snow, islands that floated in the sky, unique music! It sounded so appealing...an adventure! It took some time to consider and in the end...she gathered the coin she had, took her instrument, and paid for a one trip pass to Eorzea!
Her real journey began as soon as the ship docked in the Pirate City of Limsa Lominsa...first day there she was robbed of all her coin...and if wasn't for the kindness of one C'asamir Amon, who knows where she'd be! But her tale continues....
